KTAR 620 AM is the official radio station of the Arizona Cardinals, and they are currently at the Cardinals' training camp in Flagstaff. They have done a fine job of covering the team while up there and are by far the number one sports station in the valley. But they apparently want to start up some controversy, on what I have unofficially dubbed "KTAR Loves Kurt Warner" Day. Everybody who has touched a microphone on that station in the last 24 hours has not stopped talking about how great backup Quarterback Kurt Warner looks in training camp, and, more specifically, how much better he looks than starter Matt Leinart (pictured above looking remarkably similar to myself). Now, I can agree that Warner is a great quarterback (Hell, he won a Superbowl and can wing it with the best of 'em) but Leinart is the future of the team and the coaching staff and management knows it. Yes, they may have said that the position was up for grabs at the beginning of training camp, but that's just something you say to make the backup feel good. Problem is, this also gets the backup thinking he has a chance, and gets him upset when he realizes he's going to lose out (see Rudy Carpenter). As much as I like Warner, Leinart is the quarterback of the present and future for the Cardinals. They need a franchise guy, and they need to make sure its Leinart (who will hereby be known as "Nick Lachey's best friend").
