Gambo wants K-Rod

Wednesday on the Gambo and Ash show the guys did a couple segments on the Diamondbacks and their upcoming off-season. And like he has on other occasions, John Gambodoro brought up reigning Save King Francisco Rodriguez. He also went on to explain how the Diamondbacks need to do everything they can to sign this guy, who will be a free agent after the '08 season. Gambo believes the D'backs' biggest problem is their bullpen and how it single-handedly brought the team down this year.

Look, the D'backs need bullpen help, but spending $18 million a year on one guy isn't going to solve anything. K-Rod has been great this year, but who's to say that will continue? How many times have relievers been great one year only to stink the next? The closer position is way too volatile to invest that kind of cash in, instead the D'backs need to focus on more pressing things, like cutting down their strikeouts and finding a power hitter. Besides, the bullpen has been above average for most of the year, it was just magnified when it was compounded by poor hitting and shoddy starting pitching. I usually agree with Gambo, but I could not understand his stance on this one.
