Today, injured and oft maligned Diamondbacks left fielder Eric Byrnes (pictured above missing a fly ball) made some comments to Bob Mcmanaman from the Arizona Republic about his future and imminent return to the Diamondbacks' lineup. Apparently he is worried about getting some playing time, what with his robust .209 average and his scintillating 4 stolen bases. Azcentral.com says:
Because he has a three-year, $30 million contract, Byrnes said he can't envision the Diamondbacks "sitting me on the bench making that amount of coin."
"If I'm healthy, I figure I'm going to play. Obviously, Conor's bat is going to be in the lineup somewhere," he said. "But I don't know. If they don't need me, potentially, that could be it, I guess. Obviously, we're going to have C.Y. (Chris Young) in center and J-Up (Justin Upton) in right, so I don't know what's going to happen exactly.
There's nothing wrong with a guy wanting to play, but you have to understand that the D'backs aren't moving Conor Jackson or Chris Young, and Justin Upton is probably going to get alot of starts once he comes back. Maybe you should have thought about playing time before laying an egg for 50 games in April and May. I'm not going to lie, I was in favor of resigning Byrnes, but that deal is looking worse and worse each day.
